The process, which can be carried out manually, is labyrinthine in its complexity, with lots of individual components and policies that cannot be managed centrally, making deployment and continued support a daunting prospect.  
ACI (Application Centric Infrastructure) Anywhere is a logical multi-cloud SDN extension for ACI MSO (Multi-Site Orchestrator). MSO is a software component used for the deployment of Multi-Site ACI. The MSO is responsible for ensuring the ACI fabrics in each DC have the same polices and objects created. Think of MSO as the glue that takes two entirely independent fabrics (each with its own failure domain) and ensures they function as a single entity (on-premise to cloud and cloud to cloud), including seamless region to region inside the same cloud provider.  
With ACI anywhere the same MSO can perform this function for various cloud IaaS providers, ensuring that functions such as security enforcement policies and workload analytics are visible and adhered to automatically, the underlying network functions as a secure cloud interconnect, managed as a single entity.  
MSO uses APIs to communicate with the ACI fabric APIC&rsquo;s (Application Policy Infrastructure Controller) and the fabrics various cloud providers, meaning MSO provides a single pane of glass to manage not only the private cloud (ACI) but the public cloud as well.  
ACI anywhere can quickly deploy a cloud fabric, including the networking and security components that are indistinguishable from the private cloud, this process removes one of the blockers for organisations to fully leverage a true seamless hybrid cloud - the operational, configurational and management complexity. With ACI anywhere seamless fabrics can be automated and stood up on demand, using a single intuitive GUI.  
APIC has a cloud hosted version, imaginatively titled - Cloud APIC, available from the marketplace on each of the cloud providers. The Cloud APIC is usually deployed automatically by the MSO and configured using restful northbound API&rsquo;s. At least one Cloud APIC is required for each cloud provider. The Cloud APIC is responsible for performing ACI policy translation into the cloud provider fabric.  
The Cloud APIC does not necessarily need the private cloud element (on premise ACI) to function, it&rsquo;s a perfectly valid use case, to use it to provide seamless multi-cloud using just cloud provider IaaS. That being said a hybrid cloud architecture is recommended to truly realise the power of ACI Anywhere and the inherent cost savings it provides.  
To act as the network layer to underpin this process ACI Anywhere leverages the popular 1000v CSR (a staple of many cloud provisions) to act as the fabric underlay, with support for IPSEC (DMVPN), VxLAN, mBGP EVPN and anycast gateway, the 1000v CSR provides seamless IP mobility options for virtualised environments. The CSR 1000v&rsquo;s are usually deployed automatically by the MSO and configured using Netconf.  
For the purposes of seamlessly stitching the private / public cloud together the following technologies are used as overlays, all configured by the Cloud APIC, thus abstracting the complexity involved:    VxLAN data plane is used to connect the ACI fabric to the cloud provider, this is transported over an overlay technology such as IPSEC, DMVPN, SDWAN, which forms an underlay for Multi-cloud itself.  mBGP EVPN is used for routing reachability between the ACI fabric and the cloud provider.  Other Sites are connected with any overlay technology IPSEC, DMVPN, SDWAN.    
The flexibility provided in the networking stack ensures that true cloud based VM mobility is possible, whereby VMs can be hosted and addressed in the same way whether they are physically (from a hypervisor point of view) in the private cloud or the public cloud. I&rsquo;d strongly recommend that SD-WAN be used as an underlay for all multi-cloud connections. With SD-WAN, ACI Anywhere can leverage many additional benefits such as policy based best path selection and seamless fabric integration with the major cloud providers. This includes SaaS providers (including O365, Salesforce, ServiceNow etc.) and IaaS providers.

With a vast array of requirements, they each have different software, products, internal resources, capabilities and long-term goals. Which is why it would be unthinkable for any one customer to be treated the same as the last.  Rather than the solution, the conversation should always come first. What&rsquo;s best for the customer needs to be thoroughly understood from the outset by assessing their needs, challenges and resources. Instead of a blanket approach, the conversation should be top-level and strategic with longer-term planning and the bigger picture in mind.  
What is a Vendor-Agnostic Approach?  With their minds on other things, customers often can&rsquo;t see the wood for the trees &ndash; so they need a vendor who can. By taking a step back and approaching the situation from a neutral stance, a vendor-agnostic supplier can assess the full marketplace and tailor the solution to the company&rsquo;s needs, rather than leading blindly with a fixed, target-driven product.  Many businesses may have a specific solution already in mind when they look for a vendor, which could result in settling for one who will just say &ldquo;yes&rdquo;. Rather than opting for what may seem like a painless, short-term solution, companies must partner with a strategic, vendor-agnostic supplier who will have no objection to explaining long-term implications and providing a fully-integrated road-map. Even if that goes against the customer&rsquo;s initial expectations. After all, a vendor-agnostic consultant will always have the customer&rsquo;s best interests at heart.  Is your Vendor Customer-Centric?  Some companies lead with a point product, or suite of applications to secure a sale or align with vendor influenced targets. Instead, a vendor-agnostic approach is proven to help limit risk exposure for many customers, by ensuring technology is aligned with strategic direction and long-term goals. Furthermore, this risk-averse approach extends to maximising value from clients&rsquo; existing assets and considering past investments in technology.  Most &ndash; if not all &ndash; companies in the digital age refer to themselves as customer-centric. In an era where the consumer has access to more information than ever, it would be foolish to undermine or underestimate their ability to make their own decisions or &ldquo;shop around&rdquo;.  But to consider themselves truly customer-centric, vendors must operate with a completely open mind. And be selflessly agnostic. Even if that means turning away business opportunities. Customers should be spoken with on an impartial basis, advising on different solutions and having open conversations - which may also include discussing or suggesting vendors that they may not be currently partnered with. This may create the potential for new partnerships, or result in the vendor walking away if they don&rsquo;t feel that they can provide the best solution.&nbsp;

    Many organisations are looking for hybrid Unified Communications solutions, particularly utilising Cisco and Microsoft.

   Cloud and Microsoft UC Hybrid Solutions  The only way that vendors can approach these situations and have these open conversations is with an extensive depth and breadth of knowledge of the marketplace. And from a genuinely objective position. Customers may not have the awareness of hybrid cloud solutions or the expertise in-house, so it is the vendor&rsquo;s responsibility to provide a neutral, comprehensive and professional viewpoint.  While some customers may be ready for a complete overhaul of their current systems, others may have incumbent processes where it&rsquo;s in their best interest to integrate solutions with existing software. As a result, vendors may work on a purely strategic level for their customers &ndash; giving advice and guidance as a vendor-agnostic advisor or as a design consultant to oversee the implementation of new software and products.  Or, vendors can work together as part of a hybrid solution with several other specialists and vendors. Vendor partnerships can take many forms, such as working alongside in-house, third-party or sub-contract technicians. Whatever the form it takes, a vendor-agnostic supplier will always work in whichever way results in a long-term tech investment for their customer.  Forfusion&rsquo;s Vendor-Agnostic Approach  Forfusion has been employed by some of the biggest systems integrators and most complex customers in the world to design all manner of unified communications and productivity solutions. With experts in both camps, we can mitigate risk when integrating Cisco and Microsoft technologies or facilitating migration from one to the other.    SCC needed to find an independent consultant with the relevant technical expertise, certification and sector knowledge who could advise on the project they were already committed to undertaking. This would include reviewing work to date and advising on recommendations for the best solution for the council whilst identifying and documenting any mitigating actions that would need to be resolved to achieve a successful outcome. I have the day to day responsibility for making sure that we&rsquo;re working closely with our clients to ensure that our people and services transform their business.  Industry experience  In my 30+ year IT career, I&rsquo;ve worked in the UK and Australia for software and integration companies ranging from small business to global powerhouses. I&rsquo;ve led national product, sales and services teams, as well as large regional and global service development portfolio programmes.  Background  I started life in the mainframe software world in my hometown of Newcastle. Drawn to the lights of London, I became one of the go-to design consultants of some of the earliest mass-scale LAN deployments, at a time when speed was a kilobit thing.  My curiosity for software took me to collaboration and workflow systems (Lotus Notes in those days) where my team and I broke new ground in automation of things such as global insurance claims. A move to Australia for seven years saw me working more on the development of services portfolios across the globe. Returning to my native North East in 2003, I&rsquo;ve remained in IT businesses in various consulting, service and commercial roles. I&rsquo;m also actively involved in Dynamo North East, a tech cluster run by industry.
