One that must shape and shift to adapt to their ever-changing needs instead of calling the shots. Today&rsquo;s digital generation is empowered, impatient and demanding. Brand loyalty hangs by a thread and the smallest oversight can break it entirely. A 4-second website load time could be enough to lose your potential customer. In fact, according to Google, 53% of mobile website visits are abandoned if a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load.  Traditionally, the retail business model struggles to be flexible - tending to react rather than innovate and drop prices rather than build in-depth customer relationships. So, whether your customer experience isn&rsquo;t seamless enough, you&rsquo;re struggling to engage with your audience and keep up with their ever-evolving needs, or your website is a second too slow &ndash; retaining business in an era of digital disruption is no easy feat.
 
There&rsquo;s no doubt that technology is changing our industries at a pace that most long-established companies are struggling to compete with. But although change can be overwhelming, it&rsquo;s also incredibly exciting and should be treated as an opportunity to re-connect with existing customers as well as appeal to new ones.  1. I&rsquo;ve architected complex designs, technology road-maps and risk mitigation strategies, for some of the largest blue-chip companies in the world. More recently, I&rsquo;ve been responsible for managing and executing a company acquisition, as well as developing the associated earn out mechanics.  Background  Prior to life in the commercial world, I spent my time working for the armed forces in some of the most hostile places on earth. Whilst serving, I worked extensively with computer networks, as well as designing blast walls to absorb rocket energy. I also worked as a specialised military diver and spent half my life underwater searching for dead bodies and other unpleasant things. To let off steam I spent much of my time on the judo mat and in the boxing ring, and in fact, participating in any physical and mental challenge that presented itself. Aside from this, I love fine wine and France, as well as spending time with my crazy boxer dogs and my very patient girlfriend. I also enjoy reading books on business strategy and pursuing further studies to broaden my knowledge in this weird and wonderful world. That&rsquo;s why we&rsquo;re firm believers in apprenticeship schemes, as well as fast-track training programmes to help develop and nurture our talent. We know that if you&rsquo;re not advancing, then neither are we.  We&rsquo;ve chatted with Connor, our engineering apprentice to get a first-hand insight into life at Forfusion as an apprentice.  Why did you decide you would like to do an engineering apprenticeship at Forfusion?  I decided that I wanted to do an apprenticeship when I was still in sixth form. While I was studying there, I realised that I preferred a hands-on approach, so an apprenticeship was an obvious choice for me.  I&nbsp;knew that I wanted to work for Forfusion during my initial interview with them; they put emphasis on how important past apprentices have been for the company, which made me feel like I could make a real difference. The experience has been brilliant so far, the team allow me to manage my own time, which is great as I know what I need to prioritise.  How did you find out about the vacancy and apply?  I found the vacancy through Baltic Training. The process was straightforward. Firstly, I had a telephone interview with Baltic and after this, I received weekly or fortnightly calls about apprenticeships they currently had available and some information about the companies offering the apprenticeships. It was during one of these calls that Baltic mentioned Forfusion and I knew I wanted an interview.  Fortunately, Baltic arranged the interview to work around my schedule. At the time I was working part-time at McDonald\'s as well as coming to the end of sixth form, so there was a lot of coursework and revision for exams to be done. Baltic had multiple calls with me in the run-up to the interview, which helped me prepare and gave me the best chance of getting the apprenticeship.  What does your job involve?  My role involves working on the Support Desk,&nbsp;where we have our own specialisations and mine is the Microsoft UC (Unified Communications). This involves applications such as Skype for Business and PeterConnects. Skype for Business is an enterprise communications platform used by multiple customers. Skype can be used to IM (Instant Message), audio and video conference and connect using Meeting/Conference Phones (Polycom phones) and Surface Hubs.  PeterConnects is the application we use for receptions for various customers. The application can be used for answering calls, placing calls on hold, transferring, conferencing in other callers and setting up conference calls. It also allows us to create IVRs (Interactive Voice Response), call queues and more.  My primary role would be first line support for the applications mentioned above. My secondary role would be&nbsp;classed as internal support, where I have taken on the responsibilities of setting up new starters\' laptops, fixing or sending laptops back that are still under warranty and day-to-day internal support as well. &nbsp;  How have you found the work so far?  When I started back in September I initially found some of the work quite challenging, but with the help and support of my colleagues I quickly settled in and the overall experience has been very rewarding.  It&rsquo;s great being part of the team as I get given responsibilities that not only keep my days busy with work I enjoy doing but also enables me to have time to complete my coursework and revise for exams.  What do you enjoy the most about your role?  The most enjoyable and satisfying part about my apprenticeship is when I configure and solve something without referring to any documentation. This has continued over the duration of the apprenticeship as the issues and requests have become more complex. Another thing I enjoy about the apprenticeship is the work environment as there is always someone willing to help if I do get stuck.    What do you find most challenging about your role?  The most challenging part is balancing coursework, exams, online webinars and day-to-day work requirements. This has become easier because of the help I&rsquo;ve been getting from my line manager, colleagues on the service desk and improvements in my own time management.  Thankfully for the first month, I had another apprentice showing me what he does and what I&rsquo;d be taking over, so I had a thorough hand-over.  What&rsquo;s it like working at Forfusion?  Working at Forfusion is great because it gives me the opportunity to work with highly-skilled engineers that allow me to ask a multitude of questions. Even the senior staff make time for me if I have any questions or highly technical faults. This lets me accelerate my knowledge and helps develop my current skillset which is a bonus as I want to be a fully qualified engineer as soon as possible.  Another benefit is that Forfusion strongly believes in a great working culture and constantly does what it can to improve employee satisfaction. For example, they pay for your gym membership, eye appointments, provide free drinks and healthy snacks in the office and other perks.  What do you hope to do after your apprenticeship?  I hope to continue to a level 4 apprenticeship with Forfusion as I&rsquo;m currently enjoying the mix of online courses, exams and work placement where I can talk directly to the customer and work through problems and faults with them. After my level 4 apprenticeship, I hope to get a job here as a first or second line support engineer.  What would you say to anyone considering an apprenticeship instead of full-time college or university?  I would highly recommend an apprenticeship if you are wanting hands-on experience where you can study and gain certifications and qualifications at the same time. It&rsquo;s also a huge bonus to be earning a salary rather than incurring student debt. Unlike university, if you do change your mind on the industry or path you want to go down, you can always change path once your apprenticeship is over. Celebrating our 10th year in business together, we&rsquo;ve collectively moved from a broom-cupboard office to a multimillion pound company with global customers and over 40 colleagues. It&rsquo;s been an interesting journey to date. For instance,    We found our first employee on Gumtree  We started with a significant financial investment of &pound;0  We considered the financial crash in 2008 to be a sign and a door-opener    So &ndash; as you can see &ndash; we&rsquo;ve not taken any easy roads or short-cuts to where we find ourselves today. With a small team, we began to build our business on the same beliefs that we still hold very dear today. And that&rsquo;s what makes integrity one of our core values. Steadily, we&rsquo;ve increased in headcount, revenue and profit. Why make a brand change now?  Following our recent 10th anniversary, it was time for us to make a change. This coincides with completing a thorough competitive market analysis and a brutally honest review of all aspects of our business with our brand performance partner, Precept.  With their help, we&rsquo;ve undergone a full re-brand that we feel now fully represents where we&rsquo;ve come from, who we are, what we stand for and where we&rsquo;re going.  Internally, we&rsquo;ve corresponded this with a restructuring of our leadership team. As well as the acquisition and re-working of our products and services portfolio to align with market demand. Further, we&rsquo;ve re-thought our entire back-office eco-system to improve processes and procedures in preparation for scale.    &ldquo;This whole process has enabled us to re-define our mission and our core values&rdquo;  Steven Forrest, CEO  Our re-brand has been fundamental to express our capabilities and ethos as a now 10-year-old company with global customers and market-leading partners.  How did you go about re-branding?  As with everything we do, we started with our most important asset &ndash; our people. After all, our brand is nothing without them. So, as part of our wider strategic objectives, we conducted 1-2-1 interviews and an anonymous employee survey. We received some invaluable feedback and insights that informed important brand decisions. It has allowed us to define and articulate our company mission and core values.  As far as how we now look, our brandmark is a global-like mark that represents acceleration, performance and data security. Our colour palette is warm, confident and timeless. The vibrancy reflects our forward-thinking and dynamic team. Even our typeface reflects us as a business. It&rsquo;s designed to express how new technology is made simple and easy.    What are Forfusion\'s company mission and core values?  Interestingly, our mission and core values have remained much the same. From our perspective, it&rsquo;s imperative that we take everything we&rsquo;ve learnt to date and continue to drive our business forward with our main asset &ndash; our team. Moving forward, we&rsquo;ll be executing our wider strategy with precision; with our mission and core values in mind. Chief Executive Officer                          Email &nbsp;&nbsp; Call +44 (0) 191 500 9100                                                                                                                                                                                         Profile Bio               Areas of responsibility within Forfusion  As Chief Executive Officer I&rsquo;m responsible for setting the strategy, culture and governance across the entire company &ndash; I lead Forfusion\'s team on a mission to transform business, together.&nbsp;  Industry experience  Having worked in technology, engineering and business consulting for over 20 years, I&rsquo;ve gained invaluable experience in both private and public sector industries. I&rsquo;ve architected complex designs, technology road-maps and risk mitigation strategies, for some of the largest blue-chip companies in the world. More recently, I&rsquo;ve been responsible for managing and executing a company acquisition, as well as developing the associated earn out mechanics.  Background  Prior to life in the commercial world, I spent my time working for the armed forces in some of the most hostile places on earth. Whilst serving, I worked extensively with computer networks, as well as designing blast walls to absorb rocket energy. I also worked as a specialised military diver and spent half my life underwater searching for dead bodies and other unpleasant things. To let off steam I spent much of my time on the judo mat and in the boxing ring, and in fact, participating in any physical and mental challenge that presented itself.  Favourite quote  This quote really resonates with me, as I feel it represents one of our most powerful core values, integrity.    &ldquo;A lot of people are afraid to tell the truth, to say no. That\'s where toughness comes into play. Toughness is not being a bully. It\'s having backbone.&rdquo;  Robert Kiyosaki  Other interests  Now that my judo and boxing days are over, I still like to keep fit by running and attending the gym. Aside from this, I love fine wine and France, as well as spending time with my crazy boxer dogs and my very patient girlfriend. I also enjoy reading books on business strategy and pursuing further studies to broaden my knowledge in this weird and wonderful world. Full Name*Email Address*Company*Job Title*I would like to recieve the latest news and insights from Forfusion.Book now                                                                                                                                                                             An Engineer&rsquo;s perspective:  Earlier I talked about some of the very high level differences between Cisco Nexus (NX-OS) and Catalyst (IOS) switching, and I provided an overview on some of the main NX-OS specific features.  This blog aims to expand on the overview, and will hopefully allow you to get to grips with common tasks on IOS and how they translate into NX-OS.  This post is the first of a five part blog series which will consist of easily digestible overviews and some practical configuration (config) examples.  All of the information in this blog series can be found on the Cisco DocsWiki, which is a great resource for both Cisco NX-OS and IOS.  For this example I will use the Cisco Nexus 7000 and Cisco Catalyst 6500 to draw a direct comparison. In this engineer&rsquo;s opinion, they are the most similar out of the two ranges. In fact, before the Cisco Nexus 7000 was first brought to market, the Cisco Catalyst 6500 series typically fulfilled its role (that of core and aggregation switches) in the Data Centre space.  Before I go into the key differences between the default configurations, I&rsquo;ll outline two biggest differences (in my opinion):  Interfaces are labelled in the configuration as Ethernet. There aren&rsquo;t any speed designations.
A user can execute show commands in configuration mode without using the do command in IOS.
The following three tables outline some of the specific differences.
